"From a companys perspective, RPi are awful."
As a company, our perspective is probably quite different to users ordering single units...
Their business to business service is awful, terrible and very much less than professional.
If you wonder why there is so little information on the availability of their products, it's because they are just plan awful at keeping their "partners" in the loop, let alone OEMs who they're supposed to be working with.

As soon as supply issues hit, rather than taking the time to contact their partners and OEMs, they went into lockdown. Complete radio silence.

So if you're ever frustrated about the lack of information regarding supply, blame the RPi foundation because it's them who have buried their heads in the sand.
Companies that we're partnered with have all had the same issues and the same templated responses to queries about availability.

The appear oblivious to the fact that we all compare notes and so the email that their so-called "commercial team" (actually ordinary consumer level customer service reps...) sent out pointing to a blog post about backorders speaks volumes about how they treat their partners and companies who have been relying on them. Frankly, it's contempt and as such, wholly unproffesional.

We have been backed into a position whereby we cannot trust or rely on the RPi foundation to be honest or realistic about availability.

The problem with a company enjoying some small amount of celebrity is that it engenders complacency and arrogance. However, there are alternative SBCs and I would encourage any company - large or small - not to accept this situation as a given and instead examine the alternatives. NXP for example make outstanding processors....

"Wow!!!"
Raspberry Pis are brilliant! They are great for coding as well as just general work! They can be a very good replacement for a windows pc if you buy a Pi 400 or a Pi 4 model B with 8GB of ram, both with at least a 50GB micro sd card! I love my raspberry pi! I use it at least once a week and if i browse the web - I use FireFox or Chromium on my raspberry pi! For a £30 - £100 computer it is amazing!!!

"They make pretty cool stuff."
They make pretty cool stuff. The last Pi I bought was the Pi 4, and it performs admirably well (for a $55 computer/SBC).

"Sold themselves to Microsoft"
I've been using Raspberry Pi computers since version 1, still have that one in my car as Bluetooth receiver. I love your products. I use several of them in my home for automation. I have bought about 40 Pis over the years, for my friends, their kids, donated to school.

But what you did there has completely ruined my trust in you. You installed Microsoft non-free repository in all my Pi computers, with GPG key, without my consent, without any changelog. Trust and security is paramount. I don't understand why my CCTV camera with Raspberry Pi, totally headless will from now on ask Microsoft server for updates, where its not even possible to run their non-free software on headless Raspberry Pi anyway. And another thing I don't use this software so I never needed their closed source repo in the first place.

As soon as I discovered this I told all my friends about it. I am done with you guys, I will move to other Operating System as you are not trustworthy. You did this now, you will do it again, money corrupts. I don't know how much Microsoft has paid you. But know this, you won't be getting any more money off me.

"Raspberry Pi 4 4gb"
The new RPI4 whilst powerful for its size still uses the SD card to boot, sadly my sd card holder on my RPI4 only lasted 3 days, not very well attached to the board.
Now not usable, unless I can do some micro soldering.

Happy with the RPI4, but not the quality of the construction.
Cheap does mean sometimes missing quality construction.

"Wow!"
Wow! A computer for $25?

These guys think they have done it – plug their USB based chip into a screen or TV and a keyboard and you will have a basic computer. They hope this will help train a new generation of young computer literate DIY programmers and give computer access to the millions of people who cannot afford current products. Well worth watching.

I wonder what the techies on Site Jabber make of it?

For me (non-techie, I just drive the things) - amazing!
